Stumbled upon these on a Fall website I go on, from the gig at Level 8, Strathclyde Uni, in December 1990. The Fall were over an hour late on stage as, arriving in a cunt of a mood, MES had demolished an entire bottle of Glenmorangie and numerous bottles of Pils, plus whatever else he was on, before the soundcheck finished. The band went back to their hotel, the one next to Queen Street Station, whatever it was called then, and Smith passed out. Come time for departure to the show he couldn't be roused. The hotel called an out-of-hours doctor who gave him a shot of something to wake him up. Looking back, it's impressive he made it to 60.

Kenny Brady plays "The Birdie Song" on his fiddle before "British People in Hot Weather". Craig starts playing "Pittsville Direkt" before "British People in Hot Weather" but there's obviously a change
of plan)
- "Graham, can you get it flatter outside, please?" (before "And Therein")
- "(...) had that guy jump up on the stage." (before "British People in Hot Weather")

First three songs recorded by Charles before his machine died. No complete tape exists?

No tape exists? Darren: "For what it's worth, this was a pummelling set performed to a half-full hall – a massive improvement on the lacklustre effort at Preston Guildhall earlier that year. The only songs I can remember them doing are Arms Control Poseur (a heavy, grinding version) and Victoria.
Peter: "We travelled to this one from Liverpool with dreadful hangovers after a good party to find a deserted town as we turned up on the wrong night. i.e. 16th December, Sunday night – which may be why it was half-full! I'm sure it was advertised as the 16th or may be just stupid."
The December tour poster posted above suggests that Sheffield was planned for this date, so perhaps there was a late switch to Preston. If anyone knows the story, please write in.
