Supporting the tour was Howard Devoto's band, Luxuria—a member of which recalls: "Mark was really pissed off when Luxuria were added to The Fall's US tour at the last minute by Beggars (understandably) so he & Howard had a 'man-to-man' to sort it out after the NY gig. Obviously, they'd known each other for a while, so that helped smooth things over. When we turned up at the NY Ritz however, a local support band had already been booked leaving Luxuria no time to play, so we had to pull out of that one... We played in Toronto & Vancouver without The Fall on this tour between the Detroit & Seattle gigs. The Fall started the tour a bit rough but got better & better & they were just superb by the last gig!"

Lines from "Working In A Coal Mine" during "U.S. 80s-90s"

- "Excerpt. Enjoy these (...) sessions." (before "Hit the North")
- "Roger! Roger! Roger! Roger! Roger! Roger! Roger! Roger! Roger whistled 'Winchester Cathedral'." (amended lyrics to "Cab It Up")
- "I base my life largely on Simon Wolstencroft, the drummer. He is a cardie lad. He is anti-CND." (amended lyrics to "Jerusalem")

Brian Good: "First song they played was "Shoulder Pads."  A spotlight was shining in MES' eyes during the first song or two.  He yelled, "Turn off that spotlight, it's driving me bats!"

Other songs I remember them doing: 2x4, Frenz, Oswald Defense Lawyer, Hit the North, Pay Your Rates (very exciting for me because I was very into the Grotesque album at the time)."

Samuel Boone: "I don't recall Luxuria being there but they could have, I was there to see THE FALL. I remember MES throwing the microphone into the drum kit and storming off the stage until the techs fixed the sound, and I also remember some poor soul passing out with his head by the amps (who may never have heard anything again for the rest of his miserable life). At any rate, I apologize for not knowing the EXACT date, but it is late May 1988 since it was the Hit The North tour, despite the fact that they were in the west.

Talking of which, back three centuries ago, enraged and stifled with torment, he threw his right arm to the North and his left arm to the South. And the inhabitants of these cities felt their nerves change into marrow, hardening amidst diseases. Shootings and poundings through all the coasts, till weakened, the senses inward-rushed within the dark mess of infection." (between "Yes, O Yes" and the tape of "Hip Priest")
